Journal Writing 2- VALERIE LOW :D

Part One

I have a friend, named Eugenia. She's the best friend a girl could ever have. I knew her since primary 4 from PHPPS. You could simply tell her all your problems and worries, she will always lend you a listening ear. She will always be there to comfort you and to help you through the difficult times. She will never abandon you just because she have some new friends. She's the one you can trust in. She will always be there whenever you need her. You can always count on her. When you're happy, you can share the joy with her. When you're feeling down, she'll always find a way to bring back a smile on your face. She's like my guardian, guarding and guiding me through each and everyday.

She's a Chinese too. It does not matter which race your friends are in. Black or white, Malay or Chinese, does it really matter that much? Friendships are strong and powerful. Different skin colours does not make any difference.

One of the reason, why we're so close, it's maybe because we share common interest. We stay close to each other and we're just.. UNBREAKABLE! Friends like her are really hard to get. Like looking for a pearl in the endless ocean. She's a friend i can never afford to lose.

Part Two

1. Character
2. Circumstances (eg. classmate, groupmate, cca-mate)
3. Gender
4. Age
5. Race

Your character and personalities tells everything. It is the most important thing when it comes to choosing a friend. If you're very greedy, selfish, dishonest and rude. Do you think you will have friends? Friends are there to help you to change your ways and lead you to the right path. Character is very important.

The second point is circumstances. If you're in the same class with your best friend, things will be much easier! You can communicate more conveniently and quickly. In class, projectwork or even CCAs, all of us must work together to achieve for the best. We may be working together even in the future! So, circumstances is very important too.

Gender. It makes quite a difference. As teenagers now, they love to gossip, which of course lead to misunderstandings. If you see a guy and a girl sitting together, you might think that they are boyfriend and girlfriend, that's why some people do not really dare to approach the oppsite sex. But it's alright, the misunderstandings will soon be cleared.

Age? People of different ages may find abit more difficult to communicate. Example: You and your parents might not be able to communicate as well as with your friends as teenagers and adults have different point of view or opinions. When people talk about topics like love and school, would you rather talk to a 50 year old auntie than a 14 year old teenager? People of same age group tend to communicate easier and think mostly the same.

Race. As i stated above. It does not matters what skin colour you are. Friends are friends, you do not judge people by their appearances. As the saying goes, "Do not judge the book by its cover." . We should never insult or criticize people who are different from us, instead, we should respect and learn from them.

Part Three
Do you think Racial Harmony Day has served its purpose?

Yes. Racial harmony is a day where people of different races come together and celebrate. To know more about each other's culture and religion. As you know, Singapore is a multi-racial country. Without racial harmony, Singapore may not be as peaceful as now. Singapore may experience riots and disorder as the different races cannot live in harmony with each other. Racial harmony is also a great day to clear your misunderstandings about other races and to make friends! :)
